Objective

To promote the use and development of information and communication technologies in offsetting rural geographic and demographic disadvantages.

 

Strategy

·        Introduce research, training and development measures for community and enterprise sectors.

·        Promote and develop of new business models, work practices and marketing channels to foster competitiveness and growth.

·        Establish linkage programme between West Cork Technology Park and satellite facilities in other local towns.

·        Enhance electronic and mobile commerce capacities within Fuchsia Brand participants.

·        Develop new marketing, production and communication practices for Fuchsia Brand participants.

·        Develop a revenue stream for the Fuchsia Brand initiative through the use of information and communication technologies

·        Support the development programme of the West Cork Information Technology Network in achieving increased information and communication technologies exposure within remote rural primary schools.

·        Assess the potential for outsourced and subcontracted work in rural communities

Indicative Actions

-          Create a portal site with enhanced interactive content to allow online transactions of Fuchsia Brand goods and services, the presentation of development approaches and research findings, extensive member’s content, search facility, consumer feedback, FAQ’s, internet marketing, links, etc. 

-          Use e-commerce to lower barriers to market entry for Fuchsia Brand participants

-          Develop models and structures to facilitate remote working and the creation of a distributed workforce.

-          Utilise distance learning techniques to deliver training programmes for community and enterprise initiatives

-          Evaluate the components of the local economy to determine the potential for new products and business models

-          Increase the penetration of electronic data interchange as a medium between retail multiples and Fuchsia Brand participants.

-          Increase use of information and communication technologies for marketing purposes and on-line reservations within the tourism sector.

-          Utilise information and communication technologies to facilitate knowledge transfer and networking opportunities at enterprise and community level

-          Assess commercial opportunities for teleworking and sub-contracting

-          Utilise local licensed community television service as an information dissemination and communication tool for local community initiatives on an individual basis or in partnership with other LEADER groups

-          Engage in joint venture initiatives to facilitate online delivery for selected information and development services.

-          Revenue earnings and visitor traffic from Fuchsia Brand portal site
